The Chirography Alliance is...
a community and an advocacy organization that connects and supports those who believe in the art and science of the handwritten word.
So what’s a “chirographer”?
Well, we didn’t make it up.
Chirography: (keh-ROG-rah-fee) handwriting, especially as distinct from typography
That’s according to Oxford. By extension, a chirographer (keh-ROG-rah-fur) is one who engages in chirography, or one who writes by hand.
Chirography. Writing. By hand. From the heart. For purpose. Oh, for the sheer pleasure of it.
It’s not just...
about pens and pencils, about writing letters, or journal entries, planners or lists, about putting down the smartphone, or about those monthly boxes of ink and stationery delivered to your doorstep. It's not just about language and learning, creativity and communication, family and history. It’s about all of these things. All of them. And it seems that lots of people and organizations are thinking about and trying to address certain elements of this current state of affairs.
The Chirography Alliance is ...
a way to bring all those people and groups together. It's a gathering place for individual members, but also for organizations, business entities, and creators. It is the canopy under which all these worthy endeavors reside, alongside people who care about the future of the handwritten word. Let's get everyone together, pool our energies and our knowledge, creating a multi-faceted partnership.
Chirography itself is about using the brain at a finer level, about thinking and channeling thoughts to the hand, learning, creating and sharing. The inclination and capacity to communicate this way, in writing, is one of the things that separates us from other animals. Together we can preserve the handwritten word.
